Learn, explore and discover at the at the Museum

We would love to welcome you and your students to the Bass Strait Maritime Museum as part of your school excursions.

We’ve recently launched a range of new Australian Curriculum v9.0–aligned learning activities designed to bring maritime history, communication, Sea Country and local heritage to life. These hands-on experiences support Years 1–6 and provide meaningful, real-world connections that complement classroom learning.

A visit to the Bass Strait Maritime Museum offers:

  • Authentic, curriculum-aligned learning
  • Engaging, student-friendly activities
  • Flexible group rotations and break spaces
  • Support from our dedicated staff to make planning easy

Curriculum-aligned Learning and Engaging Experiences

Our school programs are mapped to the Australian Curriculum v9.0 and activities are inquiry-based, age-appropriate and designed to encourage curiosity, critical thinking and collaboration.

Activities support learning across key areas including:

  • History and Humanities
  • English and communication
  • Geography and place
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures
  • Local and regional heritage

Alongside our curriculum-linked activities, students can also enjoy a range of engaging museum-wide experiences, including:

  • Pirate Hunt – a fun, self-guided exploration of the museum
  • Interactive problem-solving challenges
  • SS Woniora Ship Simulator – a popular, hands-on experience bringing maritime navigation to life
